The history of the orchestra
THE BOLERÁZ CITERAZENEKAR (ZITHER ORCHESTRA) was estabilished in 1997 by the proposal of the Csabai Szlovákok Szervezete (Organisation of Slovakian Minority in Bekescsaba).
The repertoire of the folk group shows the diversity of the minorities in Békés country. They particularly want to preserve Slovakian and Hungarian folk music and also other people's music: German, Romanian, Serbish and Gipsy songs are performed by them.
The special aim is to enrich their programme with folk songs collected by themselves.
The folk music group regularly takes part at local and international music festivals: Several times they were in Slovakia in Detva, Martin, Trencín, Krompachy, Komárno, Trebisov and Bratislava), Czeh Republic, Ukraine and Romania.
During the qulification organized in every second year they won gold medal four times. They also won the competition of Golden Peacock Rewarded groups in 1998, 1999, 2001 and lately in 2006.
Numerous recordings were made in the studios of Hungarian Radio.
The leader of the folk music group is László Paulik who knows a lot about this field and he is not only a specialist but an excellent teacher, too. The standard of their performance is permanently highlevel, the arranging for orchestra is ideal by knowing a lot about the charakter of folk music instruments and folk music itself.
